My warmest congratulations to Piper from Scotland! YOU HAVE WON THE KATIE LOCH NESS MONSTER COMPETITION out of over 300 entries!!!
This is exactly the sort of Nessie I think Katie would have painted. I love the bold shape, the cheery flippers and the fin at the end of her tail.
This will be featured in the new Katie book which I finished yesterday: Katie in Scotland! I went to Orchard’s offices to sign hundreds of books being given away as prizes, and letters to the schools and children who entered.
Abundant cake was on offer (thank you Emma at Orchard!) to keep me going, and also to help remind me that it’s Katie’s 21st birthday this year and I should celebrate at every possible opportunity.
I can’t think of anything more celebratory than announcing the winner of the competition! THANKS TO ALL OF YOU who took the time to enter, I’m really honestly so grateful. It was truly wonderful to see the work of so many fantastic artists and so many different and imaginative Nessies. I think you are ALL BRILLIANT.
Some work in progress for my book is posted here along with the second prize entry which is by Gareth, who wins a complete set of books.
Both Piper and Gareth will join 8 other runners up in a special exhibition at the National Gallery in Edinburgh next autumn.
Well done all of you, and especially Piper!
