Katie at the National Gallery in London!

Summer is over, and a busy and exciting autumn lies ahead, with festivals, concerts and signings. The biggest series of planned events will be a spectacular celebration of Katie’s 21st anniversary at the very place where her story begins: The National Gallery in London. I will be there for four days in half term leading a wonderfully wide range of workshops for both children and adults, which will be supported by a host of other activities at the gallery.

The fun begins on Tuesday October 26th, with a workshop for 5-11 year olds called “Seas, Sunsets and Storms”, inspired by the paintings of J.M.W. Turner. The workshop will be repeated on Wednesday 27th and Thursday 28th.

For 12-17 year olds there will be an art workshop in the afternoon of Wednesday 27th called “Drawing Out The Elements”, which will also investigate Turner’s paintings, but within a broader context.

I must emphasise that these are all FREE and will be loads of fun!

Finally, on Friday October 29th, I will lead a free workshop for adults in drawing for illustrative purposes, which is also a competition for budding illustrators.

The gallery will also be hosting art and drama based on Katie’s adventures; and I will be signing books before and after sessions. It’s going to be a busy week!

I am so excited to have this incredible opportunity to work with everyone at the National Gallery; a great honour and a wonderful experience.

There’s always the adults workshop… or you could put your hair in bunches and squeeze into your school uniform…!

James, this is so exciting and so well deserved. Katie is an enduring and lovable character, just like her creator. I shall come down to see you in action at one of the workshops. love Margaret

Bless you Margaret. It’s the support of dear friends like you that has allowed Katie to endure!

James’ half term workshops at the National Gallery were great. My 8 year old daughter had a fantastic time. She didn’t initially want to go to the art gallery as she had “been there before”, but once we got started, she was riveted, and is really proud of her paintings!

Thanks Derek, I’m so glad your daughter enjoyed the session… and I hope she’ll go back to the gallery soon!
