Announcing a World Premiere production: Katie and the Mona Lisa

HERE’S THE BIG NEWS!

Exactly four months today, on April 3rd 2013, Katie and the Mona Lisa will have it’s World Stage Premiere at the Ashcroft Theatre, Fairfield Halls, Croydon.

This is something I have kept under my hat for some time, as so many things in the past have fallen through, over many years, including numerous planned film and television productions. But Splat Theatre and Planet Theatre have combined to finally bring part of the Katie series to life on stage.

It’s INCREDIBLY exciting, and everyone is determined to make it successful enough to set off a subsequent nationwide tour.  The production will feature live actors, puppets, traditional sets and costumes… and a script by Mike Redwood that cleverly expands the 32 page book into a fantastic theatrical story in which Katie attempts to discover the secret of Mona Lisa’s smile, causing a sequence of extraordinary events to unfold. All inspired by the glories of Renaissance art – but with child-like eyes.

And best of all for me… I will designing the sets myself!

Funny that the Italians think the number 13 is lucky. With this Italian Art theme, it seems that 2013 will be a wonderful year for Katie!

More details to follow in due course, but in the meantime, here is my very first, preliminary set design (well, sketch really) for a scene featuring a reimagining of Botticelli’s Primavera!

Wondeful, James, and so well deserved to. Will try to catch it in Croydon. I’ve seen some fantastic shows there in the past. And I’m so dying to take my godson to see it when it comes to Bradford or Leeds.
