Back to books…

After all the excitements of orchestras and operas, I am now back to the world of books in earnest. Currently I am defying the heatwave with illustrations for Katie’s new Christmas adventure. That won’t be published until next year, but it will therefore become part of the 25th anniversary of Katie celebrations that Orchard Books are planning. More news on that soon.

For now, I have triplets due on Thursday August 1st!!! Three books published all at once. They are all reissues of one kind or another…

Katie and the Starry Night makes a paperback debut. Discover the magical paintings of Vincent van Gogh in this, Katie’s twelfth adventure. Published by Orchard Books.

Miranda the Explorer, which is a book that has been out of print for some time, has been reformatted from 32 to 70 pages, and is now presented as an early reader for slightly older children. It’s lovely to have the book available again. In the story Miranda is adrift in a balloon that carries her all over the world before she can find out how to get home. But is that really where she wants to be? Orion Books are the publishers.

Lastly, a collaboration with the inimitable Jackie Morris: Starlight Sailor. This, for Barefoot Books, has her rhapsodic illustrations creating a whole magical world out of my very few words. I took, as a starting point, the rhyme “Starlight, Star bright, first star I see tonight…” and conjured a night time journey in the imagination of a little boy. And Jackie breathed life into it all. This is a lovely board book edition.

Meanwhile, aside from all this looking back, I am also looking forward to all sorts of exciting projects waiting in the wings. There will be music. There will be pictures. There will be illustrations and pages. There will be ink and scissors and rollers and fabric and paper of many kinds. There will be pirates and dragons and wolves. There may even be a cyclops. But I can’t say more just yet… watch this space!

Wonderful. I am hoping there will be pockets and other troublesome creatures too.
