Delivering Christmas

No, I’m not one of those organised people who has Christmas all wrapped up by September. But I do have that curious boxing day feeling today – a sense of a moment passed. For I have finished, and delivered Katie’s London Christmas. It’s a feeling I have after finishing every book, but especially so when it’s a *Christmas* book! One lives with the characters for so long, in both words and pictures, it’s almost hard to let go.  Of course I have the *real thing* (Christmas) awaiting. No doubt it will soon be here. Some shops already have Christmas cards out.  The whole circus begins again; the commercial onslaught.

But Katie’s London Christmas is an understated traditional story. We don’t see Santa’s pants. The reindeers do not poo. It’s a story about helping and giving and reward, with a generous dash of sparkly Christmas magic, and I hope in that sense it is a little closer to the spirit of the Festive Season. Unfortunately, you’ll have to wait until Christmas 2014 to see if you agree with me. Meanwhile, the above photos of a couple of the illustrations give you a hint of Katie’s adventure!

Indeed, a strange predicament, though at least your imagination can work untrammelled. Imagine all those telly Xmas specials where the merriment has to be faked in summer…

Ah yes…. the joys of “BBC snow” (as I call it), liberally sprinkled of trees in full leaf. Always hilariously unconvincing!

It ruined Christmas in Cranford for me (up to that final episode I bought everything about that marvellous series). As did the supposed October-November scenes when the trees were still in full leaf and the light was all wrong.

Astrid sends greetings – I took her to a half-good Prom tonight and Meurig by chance was there too.

I’m glad it’s not just me then! Sounds like a nice reunion for you all at the Proms. I’m afraid I’ve missed all the Proms due to this book deadline (thank goodness for R3!). But I am taking Astrid to a Cadogan Hall concert in a week or two. And thank you for all the kind offers that I’ve failed to embrace, ticket wise. I’m not *always* this busy, so I hope something will work out one of these days.

Ah, thanks Sarah. Glad to have it off my desk and hoping for a bit of an Indian Summer now…
