I’m delighted to be able to share some of the entries for the World Book Day Katie Competition… and to announce the winner!
The brief was for schools and teachers to respond to art in the Katie books in a creative and imaginative way. Classes sent in letters and creative writing, animation and film-making, and of course lots of art. The first prize is a free school visit, by me, on World Book Day. And the entries are so good there will be lots of runner up prizes of books, and certificates, generously offered by Orchard Books.
The standard was incredibly high and it was extremely hard to choose just one school!
I only managed to get pictures of a handful of entries… here they are:
The winning entry was Peppard C of E Primary School, a tiny school in Oxfordshire. They created a magical film with the children – in a gigantic frame – acting out parts in Seurat’s The Bathers, Renoir’s Umbrellas and a Degas ballerina picture, complete with an extract from Swan Lake. The final scene showed Katie visiting a picture of ME talking to children. It was charming, imaginative and clever, and it showed a really ambitious and inclusive idea and art brought beautifully, brilliantly to life! It’s great to discover such outstanding teachers inspiring children in such a magical way! Here are some stills, and I look forward to meeting the winners in real life… on March 6th!
