A brilliant young photographer Nathaniel Rosa has embarked on a project with me, where he will, over a period of time, record a behind the scenes account of an illustrator’s life. I was intrigued when he first approached me with the idea, and was a little unsure, but his easy manner and evident skills quickly convinced me that this might be a fun collaboration and worthwhile for both of us. So much of what I do isn’t seen, so much has never been recorded. And so we began with a meeting at Saffron Hall in Saffron Walden…
This meeting was to introduce Jo Burch from the Words in Walden Festival team with James Garrett of HNE media and the technical crew for a very exciting development…
For the last 3 years I have been performing illustrated concerts with the Uttlesforde Orchestra at the Friends’ School in Saffron Walden as part of the Words in Walden Autumn festival. This year the orchestra are changing their name to the Saffron Walden Symphony Orchestra, and will be resident in the superb new state-of-the-art 700 seat theatre, built with a benefactor’s money at the County High School. You can read all about it HERE.
This means the art will be projected onto a big screen to make, I hope, a real impact.
Conductor Richard Hull and I have chosen Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade for this really exciting event, which is an ideal choice as it is the composer’s 170th birthday this year!
The performance will take place on Sunday 19th October at 3pm, and Nathaniel will record the whole process, from practising in the studio, to rehearsing with the orchestra, through to the final performance. He will also photograph book projects along the way.
For more information, visit the FORTHCOMING CONCERTS page HERE.
Tickets for Scheherazade are ON SALE NOW and can be purchased HERE.
Meanwhile, young Nathaniel has already blown me way with his superb photography. His project can be followed on his website HERE
