The Hertford Children’s Book Festival is one of my favourite literary festivals, superbly organised and put together. So I am THRILLED to be bringing Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition to Hertford theatre – my local theatre – with my friend and colleague Alexander Ardakov, the Russian virtuoso pianist. Here we are with a young fan at another concert…
The composer, Mussorgsky, wrote this masterpiece after visiting an art exhibition by a friend, a little known painter called Victor Hartmann. The ten pieces represent ten paintings he especially liked, ranging from a Gnome-like Nutcracker, to a spooky castle, Baba Yaga the witch and dancing eggs! As Alexander plays, I’ll be illustrating the theme of each musical “picture” live on stage.
The performance is on Friday September 5th at 11 am. And because it is a school day, I fervently hope that SCHOOLS and TEACHERS will jump on this opportunity to bring whole classes – or why not a whole school – to this unique experience. The perfect way to introduce children to live classical music. And tickets are only a fiver! (Cheaper than the cinema!!!)
