It’s been a funny few months since my last post. Four exciting weeks in South East Asia need to be written about … and will be. But that will have to wait, while I share some other news.
First the bad news. After surviving a month travelling the length and breadth of Singapore and Vietnam, I returned to Hertfordshire… and broke my wrist. It was a minor fall in a river, but a major problem, as it is my drawing hand that is now in plaster.
Immediately, and with MUCH regret, I had to pull out of a concert with Alexander Ardakov at the Oxford Festival of Arts. Such a hard decision, but I really had no choice. It went ahead without me, but with a slideshow of my images.
Now the good news. It appears I do not need surgery; an x-ray today looked promising and I hope things will progress. I have therefore decided I will, with help, attempt the next big event:
THE CARETAKER’S GUIDE TO THE ORCHESTRA
This is a hugely exciting world premiere, which I have written the script for, and which has been composed by Jeremy Holland-Smith. His music is glorious, it’s a wonderful score. Fortunately, this work only needs a narrator…

However the concert will also feature a painted version of Swan Lake.
So how will I manage with my arm in plaster?
Well, I am delighted to announce that I will be joined by another wonderful artist – Toto (Antonio Reche-Martinez). With a background in theatrical arts, Toto is the perfect colleague and I have been training him up, and working out what I can manage left handed and what he can do best to assist. He is a little nervous as he has never attempted anything like this before, but I have absolute confidence that we can pull it off.
There will be some schools concerts next week before the official public world premier at St. Anne’s in Limehouse on July 7th at 7.30. DO come and support Toto’s debut … and enjoy some magnificent music too, performed by the Docklands Sinfonia under their inspirational director, Spencer Down.
