Before I dash off to Cheltenham for all the exciting events there, I have a concert a bit closer to home. The Stevenage Festival ends with a “Last Night of the Proms” themed concert, and youth orchestras, band and choirs from North Hertfordshire will be taking part.
It’s a great showcase for young talent, and I’ll be joining the North Herts Youth Orchestra in the first half, for a performance of Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition. Minus one picture… for this is a particularly testing piece and conductor Justin Fung has let them off Limoges Market; a relief to me too as painting or sketching something that represents a French market in 60 seconds was no joke!
Last night I went along to the rehearsals – always exciting to see the sheet music for Baba Yaga!
In the photos you can also see some sketches for the concert, where I am literally turning Mussorsky’s “pictures” (inspired by his artist friend Viktor Hartmann), BACK into real pictures. These will be raffled… so come along and join in the fun and you may go home with an original piece of art!
