Join James Mayhew, creator of the beloved “Katie” books for an extremely rare appearance at the National Gallery in Trafalgar Square, London.
November 29th has been declared “Katie Day” by the National Gallery, and it will be a day of art, stories and fun celebrating 25 years since the first book – Katie’s Picture Show – was published. You can meet James in person and there will be a book signing too, just in time for Christmas!
This will be a FREE event, and the day is arranged into 3 phases…
- The day begins with a DROP IN ART WORKSHOP. Come along between 11 am – 1 pm and meet James in Room 34, just by Whistlejacket! There will be FREE art packs available with a gallery trail to follow, taking in pictures featured in the whole Katie series, including Rousseau’s Surprised tiger! It’s a great way to explore the gallery with children and numbers for this are not limited! - At 2 pm, James will be sitting by the Turner paintings in Room 34, for a storytelling session with his now famous upside down illustrating. Places for this are STRICTLY LIMITED TO 50, and offered on a first come first served basis. Places will be allocated 60 minutes before in the Pigott Education Centre (Orange Street Entrance at the BACK of the National Gallery). NB: The gallery does now permit photography in the gallery, but may I request you to be sensitive and in the spirit of Kate Bush, enjoy the pictures and stories for real rather than through an electronic device.
