I seem to have been dashing between the two National Galleries in London and Edinburgh of late. Last week I whizzed to Edinburgh to see for myself the really beautifully put together exhibition of Katie originals. And while I was there I ran a two day master class in the gallery, meeting 14 lovely participants, who produced some very promising work. It’s always such a joy to be back in Edinburgh, looking very festive, and the gallery afforded me their customary warm welcome.
Then I galloped to London for the National Gallery in Trafalgar Square, who hosted a super Katie day, with a trail, storytellings and signings.
And galloping featured rather a lot as one of the pictures in the trail was Stubbs’ Whistlejacket, who had whole new worlds created for him…
Other pictures included Madame Moitessier… who got a new dress!
Seurat’s Bathers
Rousseau’s Surprised Tiger!
I’m sure Katie would love to visit any of these superb pictures.
And how wonderful it was to see proud children with their masterpieces…
And so touching to see parents inspiring their children draw, right there beside the Great Works of Art…
And what a huge honour for me, to work with Caroline Marcus and the team from the gallery… and to sit beneath the Turner paintings and tell tales of Ulysses and the cyclops, and read from my very first book Katie’s Picture Show. It was a wonderful moment in this year of celebrations for the 25th anniversary.
My thanks to everyone in both Edinburgh and London who helped make these events come to pass!
And now? Well it’s back to Scotland, for another weekend, to crown the anniversary – a LECTURE on December 5th and STORYTELLINGS on December 6th, all free and in the National Gallery, Edinburgh.
