Here are titles so far available… Katie’s Picture Show 25th anniversary edition (both hardback and paperback available) Katie and the […]

Katie’s Picture Show – 25th anniversary edition
I can hardly believed it’s 25 years since Katie’s Picture Show was first published… A grain of an idea, planted in childhood it grew as a student project and into the first draft 30 years ago. I never expected it to be published at all, let alone spawn a whole series! It was created out of […]
Edinburgh Book Festival – illustrator in residence
I am absolutely thrilled to be Illustrator in Residence at the Edinburgh International Book Festival this Summer. I’ve had such a long and happy relationship with this wonderful city and it seems a most fitting way to celebrate a quarter of a century in children’s publishing. It was Katie’s Picture Show that set the ball […]
World Book Day fun!
Around and about World Book Day I was fortunate to visit several terrific schools. My thanks to all of them for the warm welcome. St. Faith’s in Cambridge, Dame Bradbury’s in Saffron Walden, Eaton Square school in London and most of all, the wonderful Peppard Primary School near Henley-on-Thames. The latter school was the worthy […]
Katie Art Competition: The winners announced!
First of all, a BIG thank you to everyone who entered the Katie Art Competition. I’ve had a wonderful time sifting through the beautiful entries. In the end it was so hard to choose one winner. So there is a first prize, but also THREE runners up that deserve a prize too. Here goes… The […]
World Book Day Competition Winners
I’m delighted to be able to share some of the entries for the World Book Day Katie Competition… and to announce the winner! The brief was for schools and teachers to respond to art in the Katie books in a creative and imaginative way. Classes sent in letters and creative writing, animation and film-making, and […]
Katie plans…
Here’s some Katie news! In advance of the big celebrations for her 25th anniversary next year, I have chosen to revise and re-illustrate the first title: Katie’s Picture Show. This was my very first book and in my day, there were no courses in children’s book illustration. I was so inexperienced! Orchard Books kindly led […]
An early glimpse: Katie’s Christmas…
Before I disappear into a world of firebirds, fluddes and festival fun in Cheltenham, I have been working hard to complete the rough sketches for the next Katie book. The final title isn’t confirmed, but it is a Christmas special, to be published October 2014 (!). I’m not going to give away too much about […]
Memories of Katie and the Mona Lisa
Some lovely pictures have surfaced from the recent run of Katie and the Mona Lisa. I couldn’t resist sharing them. The cast join me on stage for a photo shoot: Hannah Lucas as Katie, Grace Dunne as Mona Lisa, Claire Huskisson as the princess, Karen Kennedy as Grandma, Harry August as St. George and Richard […]
It’s a wrap! Final performances of Katie & the Mona Lisa
With a roar from the audience, the curtain came down on the last performance of Katie and the Mona Lisa – at least for now. The hope is that Planet Theatre and Splats can approach other theatres and take the show on tour. The production will be adjusted and improved where required, possibly slightly expanded. […]
